Fairhope airport expanding with new terminal
January 8, 2025 · Projects
Recently, the H.L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport in Fairhope, Alabama held a ribbon cutting to officially open the east terminal. As one of the busiest airports in the state, the new 4,148-square-foot building is a much-needed addition for the growing airport.
The Fairhope Airport serves Baldwin County, the second-fastest growing county in the state and surrounding areas along the Gulf Coast. The new terminal brings life to the airport and provides a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike, along with hosting most of the airport’s operations, replacing the west terminal that it had outgrown.
Flightline First Fairhope, a fixed-based operator (FBO) based out of New Orleans, is operating the new terminal, establishing their expansion into Alabama. Funded primarily by grants from the FAA and ALDOT, the improved terminal will be instrumental in inviting travelers to Fairhope as the region continues to grow.
Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) provided architecture and construction materials testing and served as consultants to Volkert. Volkert was the lead aviation service engineering firm and construction manager and Crucible Construction served as the general contractor.
