Sam Serio

Serio’s more than 20-year career includes a wealth of municipal and community development experience, ranging from land development and landscape architecture, to stormwater management and community planning.

A registered engineer in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, as well as a LEED accredited professional, he excels in guiding local governments and municipalities, as well as private developers, through projects to enhance their communities.

He has established strong working relationships throughout the Southeast over the last 20 years and is excited to maintain and strengthen these partnerships through his continued work with GMC in his new role.

As an Auburn University graduate and current Auburn resident, he looks forward to serving those in his own backyard. “Being able to serve where I live and grow the Auburn office is so important to me,” Serio said. “I am ready to continue to expand GMC’s presence in the area and foster relationships not only locally, but throughout the Southeast.”

Serio wants to see GMC and Auburn succeed and grow together. He has a heart for people and the community and is heavily focused on expanding GMC’s impact locally and recruiting the best talent to further this mission.

Hamrick has more than 30 years of engineering experience, specifically in Birmingham and the surrounding area, providing valuable local knowledge to the firm’s clientele.

Hamrick is a dynamic leader with a proven track record in project management and team development. He has excelled in steering high-value projects, while fostering strong client relationships and mentoring effective design teams.  His experience encompasses a multitude of project types, including major industrial, governmental, commercial and design-build developments, some with a design value of more than a billion dollars.

“Darren’s ability to develop and maintain authentic relationships, both internally and externally, is an invaluable addition to GMC,” Vice President of Engineering Cole Williams said. “Bringing him on board is going to tremendously benefit our clients and our young engineers, and I look forward to the growth that’s ahead with him on the team.”

Prior to joining GMC, Hamrick worked for Sain Associates, Inc., for 27 years, most recently serving as civil engineering practice leader. In this role, he successfully led and developed teams that exceeded performance goals and objectives.

Hamrick graduated with a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering and bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and is a licensed professional engineering in Alabama. He was nominated as the American Society of Civil Engineers “Young Engineer of the Year” in 2003 and named one of Birmingham Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2010.
