Steve Jernigan wins 2024 George Goodwyn Building Communities Award

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) congratulates Steve Jernigan, FAIA, LEED AP on receiving the 2024 George Goodwyn Building Communities Award.
The award is given annually to a GMC employee who exemplifies outstanding leadership and a commitment to community service – qualities that GMC believes are of utmost importance.
Steve serves as the Regional Vice President of Florida and as a GMC board member. He received several nominations emphasizing his illustrious four-decade career, heart for GMC, selfless service and more.

- I can honestly say, if I ever need anything from Steve, he seems to be available and willing to jump in and help. He’s community focused at all levels, in Pensacola, the state of Florida and the southeastern region. I’m proud to nominate Steve for this prestigious award. He deserves it in every aspect. When you think about quality, integrity, creativity and care, I think of Steve.
- Steve’s unwavering commitment to leadership, service, and advocacy embodies the spirit of the George Goodwyn Building Communities award. His exemplary contributions to both the architectural industry and his community make him a deserving candidate for this prestigious honor.
- Steve’s commitment to advocacy and service is exemplified by his receipt of the AIA Individual Governmental Advocacy Award in 2010, highlighting his efforts to advance the profession’s interests at the governmental level. Additionally, his receipt of the AIA Florida Gold Medal in 2015, the highest honor bestowed by AIA Florida, emphasizes his outstanding contributions to the architectural community.
- Steve’s involvement in various leadership roles outside of his professional sphere, including his service on the Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction Dean’s Advisory Committee, AIA appointee to the National Architectural Accrediting Board Visiting Teams, National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, and Escambia County Housing Finance Authority, further illustrates his dedication to fostering growth and development within his community.
