YMCA of Greater Montgomery breaks ground on major improvements at Emory Soccer Complex
August 1, 2023 · Projects
The City of Montgomery’s Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex has broken ground on renovations and additions to the facility that will allow the YMCA to provide more programming for youth and adults in the community of all abilities.
Three of the fields are getting new synthetic turf, in addition to new turf being added to the indoor arena. One field is also being adapted for use as a wheelchair-friendly, multipurpose acrylic court to support adaptive sports programs like TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer), a recreational sports program for children and adults with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities offered only through local US Youth Soccer-affiliated soccer clubs.
Once completed, the renovated facility will feature eight lighted regulation soccer fields, two new championship stadium fields, a concession stand and restrooms, new locker rooms and other improvements to support the community and to attract tournaments and events of all sizes to the River Region.
“Once these renovations and upgrades are complete, we will have the premier soccer facility in the state of Alabama and one of the very best in the entire southeast, so Montgomery continues on her path of growth and attracting new people and retaining our wonderful residents that we have,” says County Commissioner Ronda Walker.
The work will be done in two phases. The first is scheduled for completion at the end of September, with the second phase due to be finished early next year.
GMC is providing landscape architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering and environmental services on the project.
