GMC adds architecture industry experts to the Georgia team

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is pleased to announce the addition of Shawn Hamlin, AIA, NCARB and Matthew Nicholson, NCARB in Atlanta. Hamlin joins as the Education Practice Leader, following the addition of Nicholson as Healthcare Practice Leader in Georgia, further bolstering the firm’s expertise in these markets.

Hamlin brings more than 25 years of professional experience in architectural design, planning and project management to GMC. Throughout his career, Hamlin has developed a specialty for educational projects, specifically K-12, and has extensive experience working with the Georgia Department of Education. He has designed numerous projects for school systems throughout the state, including Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County Schools, Forsyth County Schools, and DeKalb County Schools, among others.
A recognized leader in education design, Hamlin has presented at several conferences and events on topics related to school design, sustainability and more. He is a registered architect in Georgia and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with bachelor’s degrees in construction and architecture, as well as a master’s degree in architecture.
With more than 15 years in the industry, Nicholson has brought extensive healthcare experience to the firm in Georgia. Prior to joining GMC, he worked on numerous healthcare projects ranging from department renovations, imaging replacements, vertical expansions, campus additions, and facility master planning.
Nicholson has been the project lead on several healthcare developments during his time with GMC, including projects at facilities for Grady Health, Baptist Health, Washington County Regional Medical Center, and Wellstar Health System. Nicholson graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a bachelor’s of architecture (B. Arch) and is NCARB certified with a current license in both Georgia and California.
