Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA) has officially broken ground on the Purrysburg Water Treatment Plant (WTP) expansion project in Hardeeville, South Carolina. Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) designed the plant expansion, which is being constructed by Reeves Young.
The expansion will increase the existing treatment plant’s capacity from 15 million gallons per day (MGD) to 30 MGD. BJWSA commissioned GMC to design the plant expansion, following the firm’s completion of the preliminary engineering report. The phased expansion will feature extensive modifications and improvements to the river, reservoir, transfer, and high-service pump stations.
“We have worked hard to get here but we still have a lot of work to do,” GMC Project Manager Tony Reid, PE, BCEE, said after thanking the team from BJWSA and GMC. He then added, “There are huge opportunities in the community that BJWSA serves and therefore a need for additional water to support future growth,” which is a testament to the need for the expansion.
GMC is providing engineering, environmental, and electrical engineering services for the water treatment plant expansion. In addition, the firm is providing architectural services for the renovation and expansion of the Purrysburg Water Treatment Plant Laboratory, Operations and Emergency Control Facility.
