We are pleased to announce the recent promotions of Steve Jernigan and Kelly Wieczorek to well-deserved leadership roles within our Florida offices.
Steve Jernigan, FAIA, has been promoted to Regional Vice President of Florida. In this role, he will be responsible for leading business development efforts and providing oversight for all of GMC’s Florida offices, in partnership with the respective office leaders. Steve was managing partner and co-founder of Pensacola-based Bay Design Associates Architects, which GMC acquired in 2019. He has led the Pensacola office since then, which continues to provide architecture services to clients throughout the northwest Florida region and beyond.
Steve has earned a reputation as a leader in the architecture industry throughout his 40+ year-career. He was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2011 and is a recipient of the AIA Florida Gold Medal – the highest honor awarded by AIA Florida, recognizing a Florida architect whose distinguished career has had a profound impact on the profession. In 2018, he was appointed by the Florida governor to serve on the Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design and was reappointed for a second term earlier this year.
With Steve transitioning to regional vice president, Kelly Wieczorek, AIA, has been promoted to Pensacola office leader. Kelly joined the firm as a senior project manager in 2019 through the Bay Design acquisition and has more than 17 years of experience in the Florida panhandle and the Gulf Coast region.
She is active in the Pensacola community and serves on several local boards including the City of Pensacola Urban Core Redevelopment Board and the Downtown YMCA Advisory Council. She is a graduate of Leadership Pensacola and was recently elected as a 2023-2024 Vice President of AIA Florida, in addition to serving in several previous leadership positions for AIA on the local and state levels. She was awarded the Associate Member Individual Honor Award from AIA Florida, the Service to the Profession Award from AIA Florida Northwest, has been recognized as a Citizen Architect and was awarded an AIA Florida Presidential Citation in 2014.
