May 10, 2017 · Announcements, Projects
The Macon-Bibb County Commission recently selected GMC, in collaboration with MaesAwyr, LLC, as the airport planning and engineering consultant for two airports in Macon, Georgia. The airport system includes Middle Georgia Regional Airport and Macon Downtown Airport.
Both airports serve a diverse aviation market comprised of commercial, corporate, charter, recreational and military activities. In addition to many other businesses, the Middle Georgia Regional Airport is home to Bombardier and Haeco Airframe aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) businesses, which provide heavy maintenance to commercial air carriers and aerospace manufacturing for U.S. military defense contracts.
Middle Georgia Regional Airport directly and indirectly supports approximately 2,000 local jobs and yields a $200 million economic impact annually. The airport is also expected to begin offering direct flights to Washington, D.C., this summer.
Macon Downtown Airport is a public-use general aviation airport that serves recreational and corporate aircraft. Middle Georgia State University recently established a new flight training facility and fixed-base operator at the airport to support its growing aviation program.
