Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) was recognized by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) at the 26th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards® in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., earlier this month. The National Excellence in Construction® Awards honor the skill and creativity of the entire team—contractor, owner, architect and engineer—responsible for an outstanding merit shop construction project. Two of GMC’s projects, the Van Antwerp Building Renovation and Literacy Council of Central Alabama, received national honors, winning first-place Eagle Awards in their respective categories.
The historic Van Antwerp Building Renovation in Mobile, Ala., was recognized in the historical restoration/renovation over $10 million category. Doster Construction Company, Inc., was the contractor, GMC was the project architect and Thompson Engineering, Inc., served as the engineer. The Literacy Council of Central Alabama in Birmingham won the Eagle Award in the renovation less than $4 million category. Brasfield & Gorrie served as the contractor and GMC was the project architect.
