Last week, the Department of Veterans Affairs, in conjunction with BL Harbert International, Johnson Development and Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood celebrated a significant milestone at the Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Lafayette, La. A topping out ceremony commemorated the signing of the final, steel beam at the facility.
“The new VA Facility will provide first-class healthcare for our veterans who have sacrificed so much for each of us,” stated Dan Price, Vice President of BL Harbert’s U.S. Group. “Helping to meet their healthcare needs through construction of a state-of-the-art healthcare facility is an honor we embrace.”
The new 29,000 net-usable-square-foot (35,000-square-foot under roof) VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic will provide primary care, dental care, eye care, physical therapy, and radiological services to thousands of veterans in the greater Lafayette area.
“This new community-based outpatient clinic will provide not only much needed space, but also additional services to meet the health care needs of thousands of veterans in south central Louisiana,” said Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood Project Manager Richard Painter.
BL Harbert broke ground on the facility in September of 2015. Following this milestone, the construction team will finalize construction of the interiors of the clinic, with an anticipated activation in winter 2016.
Johnson Development is serving as the owner and developer of the project. BL Harbert is the general contractor and Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood designed the facility, which will be completed by the end of this year. In addition to the Lafayette project, these firms are currently partnering to deliver a VA clinic in Savannah, Georgia.
“Johnson Development is grateful for the tireless work from our partners in the Department of Veterans Affairs and our design and construction team lead by BL Harbert International and Goodwyn Mills & Cawood,” stated Derek Weaver, Johnson Development Senior Vice President. “We look forward to seeing the services this new clinic will provide to the men and women of Lafayette who sacrificed to protect the freedom of our country.”
