As clean water flows through the village of Nuevo Brasitos, the lasting impact of this memorable trip is shown through the smiles of the children, the gratitude of parents and the strengthened bond between all who had the incredible opportunity to be part of the experience.

In February 2025, Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) traveled back to Guatemala for its seventh trip to drill a well with a dedicated group of individuals, each bringing their unique strengths and dedication to the cause. Team members included Casey Cannon, Gina Espinal, Gene Hinkle, Corbin Jenkins, Gary Owen, Becca Pick and Ben Story.

Working hand-in-hand to make a difference, GMC and Asociación Pozos Agua Viva (ASOCAVIVA), led by Jaime Torres, continue to set a firm foundation for the future. ASOCAVIVA’s mission is to provide safe drinking water to remote areas in Guatemala, while improving the lifestyle of the communities they serve through their health and hygiene program, proving that real change happens when people come together with passion and purpose.

“This trip was truly the experience of a lifetime. It was such a blessing to serve the incredible people of Nuevo Brasitos village, who helped me in more ways than I could ever help them. Their contagious smiles and laughter will forever hold a place in my heart, and I give all the glory to God for the privilege of getting to know each of those beautiful humans,” Casey said.

“And the bond made between our team – it’s one I’ll cherish forever. From shaking hands and ‘nice to meet you’ on the first day, to hugs and ‘please visit soon’ on the last, I am so grateful for the opportunity to have shared this experience with such an amazing group of people at GMC, along with our new friends at ASOCAVIVA – Jaime, Karla, Juan and Rudy.”

Each day was filled with happiness, stories and mutual respect, proving that service projects are as much about people as they are about the physical outcome.

“Guatemala is more than just a trip where GMC helps build a well in a community in need; it’s about seeing the company’s motto, building communities, come to life. This journey was full of lessons, especially about unity, respect, love, perseverance and faith. Connecting with a group of coworkers from different offices and realizing that we share something in common – the spirit of helping and loving others – was truly special,” Gina explains.

Likewise, witnessing the faith of the community we helped was incredible. GMC provided water, but this trip, the community and my colleagues gave me a life lesson and reaffirmed that with strong values, unity and faith, we can make a greater impact on others than anything else.”

This experience reinforced the idea that service is not just about giving – it’s about growing, learning and connecting.

“What a humbling experience to be a part of the 2025 ASOCAVIVA / GMC team to help provide clean water – something that we take for granted – to the Nuevo Brasitos village and the opportunities that clean water will provide that village for generations to come,” Gene said.

“I will never forget the smiles and the families from the village that allowed us to be a part of their lives for the week. There is little more satisfaction for the soul in life than giving love the way Christ intended. May Christ be glorified through ASOCAVIVA from past work and years to come!”

Facing challenges together, celebrating successes and working toward a common goal created a profound sense of unity and camaraderie between the teams.

“It was an honor to serve the people of Nuevo Brasitos. This trip was filled with deep gratitude, a sense of purpose and above all, unwavering faith. I thank God for this amazing opportunity, and am grateful for the men, women and children of the village who welcomed us with open arms and trusted us to be a part of their lives,” Corbin said.

”Together, our group provided clean drinking water for generations to come, while also building relationships that will always hold a special place in my heart. I am blessed to have shared this experience with my incredible GMC and ASOCAVIVA team!”

By combining resources, expertise and a shared vision, the team ensured that their efforts were not only effective, but also sustainable.

“This trip was truly a blessing on so many levels. For me, having the opportunity to step out of the everyday comforts to a country that lacks many things but is truly rich in tradition, culture and spirit. I am fortunate to work with a company that values helping others,” explains Gary.

The people in the village gained clean drinking water and friends from a faraway place. We gained respect and appreciation for them and how they forever touched our lives.”

The experience not only provided the team with a chance to serve, but also to step outside of comfort zones and see life through a new perspective.

“Some experiences in life can change you forever – going to Guatemala with an amazing team of coworkers was one of those. The trip was both humbling and rewarding. We worked side by side with the people in the village and got to learn about and experience their daily routines. The joy on the villagers’ faces when the water began to flow was priceless,” Becca said.

It reminded me of the profound impact that small acts of service can have on people’s lives. This trip not only strengthened my connection with my coworkers, but also deepened my gratitude for the basic necessities we often take for granted. It was a reminder of the power of teamwork and the importance of giving back.

The time spent in the village served as a powerful reminder that the smallest acts of kindness can have a unforgettable impact on others’ lives.

“I am forever grateful for the opportunity to represent GMC and serve the community of Nuevo Brasitos with our team in Guatemala. It is an honor to partner with Mr. Jaime and the ASOCAVIVA team to provide safe drinking water for these families. We all worked hard to build the well, but in the process, we were used to build something just as impactful – relationships,” Ben explains.

“It is truly humbling when you can serve a small part in God’s plans in the world, and we were all blessed to share this experience together. Thank you to my teammates, and to all of GMC for your support – you have impacted countless lives, for many years to come!”

As the team continues to reflect on their journey, one thing is clear: their impact extends far beyond water. A community was built.
